Background info:
The cross is an unofficial commemorative badge for former members of the German Army up until the end of World War I. It was commissioned by many wearers to demonstrate their affiliation with a specific unit. Three different commemorative crosses are known: "Treu dem Regiment", "Treu dem Battalion", and "Treu der Marine". Distribution was carried out by the Paul Küst company in Berlin. This company also manufactured the corresponding clasps for the individual regiments, which were attached to the ribbon. Two versions of the cross are known. They differ in the reverse of the eagle in the medallion. One with a crown and the other without a crown. On the various ribbons, in the colors of the regiment or unit, a horizontal clasp bearing the regiment's name was worn.

Gold-plated, embossed cross made of non-ferrous metal. A round medallion is centered on the front and back. Two crossed swords are threaded through the center. The arms of the cross have a triangular bulge in the center at the ends. The cross arms are surrounded by a raised, fluted rim. The inner surfaces of the cross arms are finely grained. A soldered eyelet with a ribbon ring is attached at the top.
