The Bug Protection Force, also known as the Olita Brigade, was founded on March 26, 1919 from units of the 38th Reichswehr Brigade. The commander was Major General von Passow. The infantry commander was Major Kobe von Keppenfels. The Freikorps' area of operations was Courland and Lithuania. The Protection Force was made up of the volunteer battalions 44 and 42, each with 4 companies, the volunteer battalion 41 with 3 companies, and 1 company each from battalions 40 and 47. The artillery included the volunteer batteries 40, 42, 44, and 45, each equipped with 4 guns and machine guns. The Protection Force also included vehicle fleet units, economic units, and a radio platoon.
