Background information:
The 5th International Police Rally took participants to Nuremberg, Albrecht Dürer's city, from August 4th to 6th. Due to the death of Reich President von Hindenburg, all social and festive events were cancelled. However, the sporting competitions were held. "In terms of active participation, this rally surpassed all previous police rallys, but it was also perhaps the wettest and most strenuous, because storms and rain swept through Germany's regions during the rally days and placed the greatest possible demands on drivers and machines," according to the Nuremberg newspaper on August 6th, 1934. The winner of the Kronprinz Rupprecht Challenge Cup was again PSV Darmstadt.
The coming reorganisation within the German police was already making itself felt this year. The continued holding of police rallys suddenly became questionable. In general, all sport - and motorsport in particular - was influenced by "national forces", i.e. forces that couldn't stand the word "international". So it was no surprise that hardly anyone was found who wanted to take on the upcoming rally. The idea of leaving the organization of a rally to a foreign police department had been around for some time, so that the international character of the event could be expressed even more clearly.
