Grand Duke Friedrich I donated this medal on April 25, 1902. The occasion was his 50th anniversary in government. This commemorative symbol was awarded to people who served the Grand Duke and the country in public office. The recipients were named under the foundation decree. The medal was made of light bronze. A few copies (44 medals) were also made in gold and were awarded to royalties at the anniversary celebration. The production was carried out by B. H. Mayer Kunstmügeanstalt in Pforzheim. The template for the obverse stamp was provided by a cast plaque of Friedrich I created by Prof. R.Mayer. The exact number of awards of the bronze medal is not known. It is assumed that there will be around 30,000 pieces.
