In a very good condition a Bavarian Landwehr service award 2nd class 1876
The 2nd class of the Landwehr service award was awarded from 1876 to 1913. From 1913 the Landwehr service award was awarded as a medal. The Landwehr service award could be worn at the same time as and after the active service awards. The 2nd class was awarded after completing service in the reserve and military to people on leave if they had taken part in a campaign or had been called back to active service for at least 3 months. When calculating this, war years counted twice.
The Landwehr service awards were founded for the Kingdom of Bavaria on January 21, 1876 by King Ludwig II. It was awarded in 2 classes. The 1st class as a cross was awarded in unchanged form until 1918. The 1st class was reserved for officers and medical officers who had served faithfully on leave for 20 years beyond regular service. The 2nd class was a buckle made of embossed, black-painted sheet iron through which a ribbon with the embroidered cipher - L. II. - was pulled. With a pin on the back. The 1st class had to be returned after death, the 2nd class only in the event of revocation. The award regulations were modified under Prince Regent Luitpold.
Frontside: Rectangular, black lacquered clasp made of embossed sheet iron. Framed by the black frame is the woven, white cipher – L – II -.
Backside: The ribbon is sewn on the back. Metal plate with safety pin is missing here.
Ribbon: 35 mm wide, white edges 2 mm, side stripes light blue/white 2 mm/3 mm, central strip light blue 20 mm woven cipher.
