Medal donated in 1932 by the government of the Republic of Austria for participants in World War I. Because of the inscription on the front, it is also called a medal for Austria. Awarded to soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army and other Central Powers armies who served in Austrian units or on Austrian territory during the war. Persons who had received a decoration of war and swords, a medal for bravery, the Karl Troops Cross or the Wounded Medal in World War I were entitled to wear crossed swords on the ribbon.
