Kaiserreich Landwehr Dienstauszeichnung (ab 1868 2.Klasse)

In a very good but used condition a Landwehr service award 2nd class.

The Landwehr service award was donated to a class on January 16, 1842 by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Only with the foundation of the Landwehr service award 1st class in 1868 did this become 2nd class. The Landwehr service award was given to all officers, NCOs and soldiers who transferred from the Landwehr 2nd contingent to the Landsturm. In the case of special achievements or merits, the award could already be given by the Landwehr. After the 1st class foundation, the entry requirements were probably supplemented. Now calling up for active service of at least 3 months or participating in a campaign was a possible requirement for the Landwehr service award (now 2nd class). Whether the 3 months of active service or the participation in a campaign had to be performed in addition to the mandatory service is controversial. For the transfer to the Landsturm there is a total service time of 12 years. These consist of 3 years of active service, 4 years in the reserve / leave of absence and 5 years in the Landwehr. The Landwehr service award, 1st class, could only be obtained by officers and doctors with the rank of officer. The service award was not returnable.
