The 2nd Class Military Decoration shown here was mainly awarded in wars in which no Iron Cross was awarded. These include the German-Danish War of 1864 and the Wars of Unification in 1866. Later, the award was also given in the colonies during disputes. The 2nd Class Military Medal of Honor was donated in the course of the reallocation on February 27, 1864 by King Wilhelm I. As before, the award was given to NCOs and soldiers for acts of bravery. The 1st class could now be awarded without prior possession of this medal. In the 1st World War the medal was not awarded any further. It can only be proven that it was awarded to a foreigner. The number of awards for the 2nd class military medal is around 16,200.
